The amended Rules came into force on March 1, 2021.
Amongst the topics considered by the distinguished Panel will be the provisions encouraging the use of video and teleconferencing for remote hearings.
The pandemic led other major arbitral institution such as the LCIA and the ICC to make similar revisions to their Rules.

Our distinguished Panel

Anthony Connerty is a Barrister in practice in Chambers in London. He has acted as Counsel, Arbitrator and Mediator in international arbitrations and mediations in Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Lagos, London, New York, Shanghai, Singapore, Stockholm and Washington D.C. under the Rules of various international institutions including AAA/ICDR, LCIA, ICC, CIETAC, CIArb, SCC (Stockholm), RCICAL (Lagos), LME (London Metal Exchange), ICA (International Cotton Association) and in ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL Rules. He has acted as Counsel in arbitration- related litigation in London and in the Turks and Caicos Islands and acted as Adviser in arbitration – related litigation in the Courts of the People’s Republic of China. His areas of experience include complex international multi-million U.S. dollar cases involving general commercial disputes; oil and gas; metals; cotton; banking; online dispute resolution; art law. Head of the IDR Group.

Luis M. Martinez is Vice President of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, (ICDR) the international division of the American Arbitration Association, (AAA) and is an Honorary President of the Inter-American Commercial Arbitration Commission, (IACAC). As the Vice President of the ICDR located in New York he serves as an integral part of the ICDR's international strategy team and is responsible for international arbitration and mediation business development for the East Coast of the United States (from Maine to Florida), Central and South America, the Caribbean, EU and UK. Mr. Martinez is also responsible for case administration of international cases out of the ICDR-AAA’s Miami office.

Luis M. Martinez joined the AAA in 1996 as the first attorney hired to staff the newly created ICDR and later served as the ICDR's first director. He worked as the Vice President responsible for the ICDR's international administrative services and prior to that held the position of a staff attorney for the AAA's Office of the General Counsel before assuming his current position.

He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Georgian Court College and a Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University School of Law. He has had numerous articles published on international arbitration and has appeared as a speaker in programs throughout the world. Luis Martinez is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and the State of New Jersey. He is a dual citizen of Spain and the United States and is fluent in Spanish.

John Fellas of Fellas Arbitration is an independent arbitrator. Until December 2020 he was a partner and co-chair of the International Arbitration group at Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP in New York, where he practiced for over 30 years. He has acted as counsel and has served as co-arbitrator, chair or sole arbitrator in arbitrations all over the world, under all the major arbitration rules, and across a range of sectors. John is recognized as a leading international arbitrator by all the major legal directories including Chambers USA where he is ranked as “one of the best—his reputation is phenomenal and deserved.” He has practiced in both the US and the UK, and, in addition to being a member of the New York Bar, he is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales (non-practising). He received a B.A. (Hons.) in law from the University of Durham, and both an LL.M. and an S.J.D. from Harvard Law School. John is an adjunct professor at New York University School of Law, teaching international arbitration. Member of the IDR Group.

Ann Ryan-Robertson is the Chair of the ICDR® Rules Revision Committee. She is an International Partner at Locke Lord LLP, Houston, Texas USA. She holds a J.D. and a LL.M in International Economic Law and acts as arbitrator and advocate in international and domestic arbitrations. She is experienced in cross-border commercial disputes involving a variety of oil and gas issues, franchise law, partnerships, sales contracts (including those governed by the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods), and commercial contracts pertaining to manufacturing, supply, warranties and project development.

Ann Ryan-Robertson is recognised as a leading disputes lawyer having been named to Global Arbitration Review’s “Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration” since 2015, named to The Best Lawyers in America, International Arbitration-Governmental since 2014, and in 2014 and 2017 named Lawyer of the Year, International Arbitration –Governmental (Houston) by The Best Lawyers in America. In 2020, the Association of Women Attorneys Foundation recognized Ann as a “Premier Woman in the Law” and in 2008, she was named one of 30 “Extraordinary Women in Texas Law” by Texas Lawyer. In 2016, she was the recipient of the University of Houston Law Center’s “Private Sector Achievement Award.”

Recently, the United States Department of Trade selected Ann as one of ten arbitrators appointed by the United States to serve as a dispute settlement panelist pursuant to Chapter 31 of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Ann Ryan-Robertson is President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), a past member of the Board of Trustees of CIArb and a past Chair of the North America Branch of CIArb.

Professor Loukas Mistelis is the Clive M Schmitthoff Professor of Transnational Commercial Law and Arbitration and former Director of the School of International Arbitration at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London. He has practiced law in Germany, Greece and the United Kingdom. He has also advised several UK government agencies and international organizations, including the United Nations (UNCTAD, UNCITRAL and ECLAC) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on law reform for various secured transactions legislative projects as well as arbitration and ADR law reforms. His substantial arbitration experience covers ad hoc and GCC, ICC, ICSID, LCIA, UNCITRAL, SCC, Swiss Chambers and Moscow cases. Subject matters included foreign direct investment, sales contracts, aviation, distribution agreements, counter-trade, construction and infra-structure projects, defence contracts, mining, administration of natural resources and oil and gas transactions. He has also given advice on English, Greek law, and international law as an expert in arbitral proceedings and before Swiss courts. Member of the IDR Group.
